A coaching business is only as strong as the community around it — but that community was scattered across half a dozen subscriptions that didn't talk to each other.

The business

Self Coaching Masters is a coaching brand built around a book and a five-pillar method — turning readers and followers into a paying membership community.

The operational bottleneck

Running a modern coaching business means juggling a lot: a membership site, a course library, a community forum, session bookings, email, payments, and a member directory. Off-the-shelf, that's five or six separate subscriptions — each with its own login, its own bill, and none of them aware of the others. Members fell through the cracks between tools, and every new feature meant another monthly fee.

Why off-the-shelf wasn't enough

Membership platforms exist, but they hand you their idea of what a community should be — their layouts, their limits, their per-member pricing. This method is specific, and the community needed to work its own way: its content, its booking flow, its member experience. Renting someone else's platform meant capping the business at whatever the platform allowed.

What we built

What changed

Why it’s built around his business

The platform is shaped to his method and community — his content, his booking flow, his member experience — not a template he has to bend to. His members, his content, and his data are his; we built the platform they live on, and we run it for him. When he wants the experience to work a certain way, it does — and as the membership grows, his cost doesn’t climb per member.

Why stewardship mattered

A membership business can't afford downtime — members expect it to just work. So we keep it running: hosting, updates, security, payments, and the infrastructure underneath. He runs the coaching; we run the platform.

Why configuration alone couldn't solve it

He didn't need another membership app. He needed a platform that matched his method and his community, not one that made him fit theirs. Off-the-shelf would have capped the business at someone else's template; we built the platform around the business.

The payoff

He gets to do what he’s actually great at — coaching and building his community — while the platform quietly handles membership, content, bookings, and payments in the background. We built it around his business and we run it, so it grows with him instead of billing him per member.

Technology

Multi-tenant community platform: React/Vite frontend, Python/FastAPI backend, PostgreSQL, Redis, background workers, containerized with Docker. Membership and subscription billing via Stripe (direct-charge Connect), a community forum, direct messages, a course/content library with progress tracking, session booking with inline payments, achievements, and a member directory. Runs in production at the client's own member hub.
